FWSGA Points System Revised

The Florida Women’s State Golf Association point system is to govern the selection of players for SWATCA, FL/GA, USGA State Team, The FWSGA Player of the Year, and any other sponsored team competitions.  A few minor changes have been made to the system that is outlined below.

To be eligible for consideration (either on points or as a captain’s choice), the player:

  • Must be a member in good standing of the FWSGA.

  • Must participate in at least one of the following over the rolling calendar year.

    1. Two FWSGA Championships

    2. One FWSGA Championship and Two FWSGA District Tournaments

    3. Four FWSGA District Tournaments

  • Must be able to finance her individual share of the competition costs.

 

The number of participants for each competition and there selection is as follows:

 

SWATCA-9 (including 1 alternate)

7 players must be selected based on the FWSGA points system.  Players must be selected in rank order starting with the player with the highest number of points earned. 

  • If a player eligible on points declines to play, the next highest ranking player is selected.

  • If a player(s) must withdraw from the competition prior to the event, the Captain must replace that player with the next highest point earner on the Point System.

  • If there is a tie between players the Captain must select the player that has the most points accumulated during the current calendar year.

 

2 players may be Captain’s selections and the criterion for selection is at the Captain’s discretion so long as the player meets the eligibility requirements.

  • If a Captain’s pick must withdraw from the competition prior to the event, the Captain may select another player of her choice (as long as the player meets eligibility requirements).

 

Florida-Georgia-12

10 players must be selected based on the FWSGA points system.  Players must be selected in rank order starting with the player with the highest number of points earned.  The 2 highest point earning senior players must be selected in this group of 10.  (This conforms to the FWSGA/Georgia Team agreement.)  If the 2 highest point earning seniors are not within the top 10 players accepting based on points, the captain MUST select the 2 highest point earning senior players.

  • If a player eligible on points declines to play, the next highest ranking player is selected.

  • If a player(s) must withdraw from the competition prior to the event, the Captain must replace that player with the next highest point earner on the Point System.

  • If there is a tie between players the Captain must select the player that has the most points accumulated during the current calendar year.

USGA State Team-3

3 Players selected with the highest points earned.

  • If there is a tie between players the Captain must select the player that has the most points accumulated during the current calendar year.

 

Player Selection Dates:

The players will be selected from the most current points list at the time selections are made.  The 2007 Selection Dates are the following:

·          FL/GA Team after the FWSGA Stroke Play Championship

·          SWATCA Team after the FWSGA Four-Ball Stroke Play Championship

·          USGA Team after the FWSGA Four-Ball Stroke Play Championship 

Player of the Year

·    The FWSGA Player of the Year shall be the individual with the highest points earned on the Point System for the current year as of November 1st.

·     The player must meet the eligibility requirements listed above.

·     In the case of a tie, the player with the most points earned via FWSGA championships shall be the Player of the Year.

               

How Points are calculated

  • The tournaments that award points are included on the FWSGA Points List. 15 tournaments. Please note that the FWSGA 4-Ball Match Play has been deleted and the USGA Women’s Public Links has been added. 

·     Points are awarded based on finishes that qualify for points.  Points earned at each event shall count until the event occurs again.

·     Player points are earned on a rolling tournament calendar.  When an event listed is played, points earned from the previous year shall be dropped from a players point total. (i.e. after this year’s event is conducted, last year’s values will be dropped from the players points.)
