FWSGA Names Player of The
Year and Junior Player of the Year
The Florida
Women’s State Golf Association has announced the 2007 Players-of-the-Year
for their outstanding play this season.
Mary Jane Hiestand
earned the Amateur
Player-of-the-Year, and Vicky Hurst was awarded the
Junior
Player-of-the-Year. These fine competitors will be
recognized at the FWSGA/FSGA Annual Dinner this month.
Mary Jane Hiestand, 48, of Naples, FL, earned Player-of –the-Year
honors by winning the State Amateur Match Play Championship; tied for fourth
in the State Amateur Stroke Play Championship; tied for second at the
Four-Ball Stroke Play Championship. She tied for third as an individual at
the USGA State Team and placed third as a team. Mary Jane also qualified for
the USGA Women’s Mid Amateur, Florida-Georgia Team Matches and Southeastern
Women’s Amateur Team Championship.
Vicky Hurst,
17, of Melbourne, FL, wins her third Junior Player-of-the-Year. In 2007, she
captured her second FWSGA Junior Girls’ Championship; eight AJGA top-10
finishes and three victories. She qualified for the AJGA Canon Cup East Team
and PING Junior Solheim Cup U.S. Team. Hurst also qualified for the U.S.
Women’s Open, advanced to the Round of 16 at the U.S. Women’s Amateur and
nearly made the cut at the LPGA’s Ginn Open. Vicky also finished second at
the FHSAA Girls’ State Tournament.
On Friday, November 16, the FWSGA/FSGA will hold the 2007 Annual Dinner at
Interlachen Country Club in Winter Park where the 2007 Players-of-the-Year
and Junior Player of the Year will be recognized. In addition, the FWSGA
will honor the 2007 Champions, and the newest Honorary Lifetime Member,
Aloyse Holman.
Organized in 1927, the FWSGA's purpose is to "develop, promote, maintain and
protect the game of golf among Florida's women amateur golfers." In addition
to conducting 8 championship for amateur golfers in the state, the FWSGA is
also responsible for conducting 14 one-day District events. The FWSGA also
performs course ratings throughout Florida and assists in raising money for
the Junior Girls’ Scholarship Fund.
