FWSGA Announces
Florida-Georgia Team
The Florida
Women’s State Golf Association has announced the women’s team that will
participate in the 27th Florida-Georgia Women’s Team Matches,
August 16-17. The team representing the Sunshine State is comprised of the
top female amateur golfers, including two senior players, as determined by a
sub-committee of FWSGA’s Women’s Tournament Committee.
Florida’s Team will consists of Mary Jane
Hiestand of Naples, Diane Lang of Weston, Patsy Ehret of Stuart, Wendi
Patterson-Golden of Bradenton, Janice Roberts-Wilson of Plantation, Sharon
Keil of Lady Lake, Debbie Mook Sang of Valrico, Sisi Hedges of Mulberry, Ann
Pohira of Winter Park, Karen Greenway of Brooksville, Nancy Smith of North
Port, and Monica Von Glahn of North Palm Beach.
The interstate competition began in 1981.
Georgia captured the first three events followed by Florida winning five
straight. Through the 1990’s, the two state would exchange victories with
neither squad winning more than back-to-back titles. Georgia would then
tally three consecutive wins from 1999-2001. Over the next five years, the
hosting state’s team would record the victory. Having won last year’s event,
Florida will be attempting to win its first set of consecutive Matches since
1997-1998 contests. Florida leads the all-series 14-12. Georgia holds a
record of 9-4 when hosting, however.
