Florida in Second after Round One of SWATCA 

Bluegrass Yacht & Country Club in Hendersonville, Tennessee will host the 14th Southeastern Women’s Amateur Team Championship on October 30 – November 2, 2006. SWATCA invited teams from Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee to compete this year. The winner is determined by the team earning the highest number of points at the end of 3 rounds. The rounds are a four-ball match play, a foursome match play, and a singles match played over the three days. A match win is one point while a tie earns ½ point to each side. Each day’s matches are drawn the night before in a blind draw among the states and teams. Eight players from each team compete in a round. One player is selected by the captain to sit out each round.

Captain Sarah Phillips team was: Nancy Smith, Taffy Brower, Diane Lang, Reggie Parker, Terrell Italiano, MJ Heistand, Ann Pohira, Sisi Hedges, and Suzy Strock.

The first day of competition, Four-Ball match play, ended with Florida in second place behind Alabama earning 3 points for the day. Individual Florida player’s results were: Diane Lang and Taffy Brower won their match 5 and 4 over Betty Palmer and Lucie King of Alabama. Terrell Italiano and Suzy Strock won 5 and 3 over Elsa Foley and Jane Gatlin of Mississippi. Ann Pohira and Sisi Hedges lost 7 and 6 to Debbie Adams and Sharon Barham of North Carolina. Reggie Parker and Nancy Smith halved their match with Tennessee.

Wednesday, November 1st matches will be as follows:

Diane Lang and MJ Heistand at 9:30 AM
Terrell Italiano and Suzy Strock at 9:00 AM
Nancy Smith and Sisi Hedges at 10:30 AM
Taffy Brower and Ann Pohira at 10:20 AM

 

Florida Tied for Second after Round Two of SWATCA

Hendersonville, TN – In the second day of the SWATCA foursome competition, Florida is tied for second place behind Alabama who earned another three points and lead for day two with six total points. The Florida team of Taffy Brower and Ann Pohira as well as Diane Lang and Mary Jane Heistand both won their matches. Terrell Italiano and Suzy Strock lost their match to North Carolina. Nancy Smith and Sisi Hedges played Tennessee and lost their match. At the end of day two, Florida left the day with a total of two points. On Wednesday, November 2nd, will be the beginning of individual match play. The tee times and pairings are still unknown.

Final Results as of Tuesday, October 31, 2006:

Alabama - 6 points

Florida - 4 ½ points

North Carolina - 4 ½ points

Tennessee - 3 ½ points

Mississippi - 1 ½ points

 

Florida Takes Third at SWATCA

Hendersonville, TN – In home stretch of the SWATCA matches, Tennessee emerged victorious winning a 7 out of 8 matches to take the championship with a total of 10 ½ points. Not far behind was North Carolina in second with a total of 9 ½ points and Florida in third with 9 points. Individual match play results are as follows: Reggie Parker, Ann Pohira, Diane Lang and Mary Jane Hiestand all won their matches. Terrell Italiano halved her match. Taffy Brower, Suzy Strock and Sisi Hedges lost their matches. The 2007 SWATCA matches will be hosted in Florida next year.
