Amateur Championship
Reggie Parker, Hobe Sound
defeated Mary Jane Hiestand of
Naples 1 up to capture the 77th
FWSGA State Amateur Match Play
Championship at Bonita Bay Club
East in Naples May 7-12, 2006
Parker the 24th seed, defeated
2nd seed Mary Jane Hiestand, 1
up in the final match to secure
the title. Parker came back from
a 2 hole deficit to win the
final match on the 18th
hole. In route to the finals,
Parker defeated Sammy Sue
Wilson, Fort Myers in the first
round 2 & 1. In the second
round, Parker defeated Sisi
Hedges 4 & 3. Parker advanced to
the quarterfinals defeating
medalist Benedikte Grotvedt 2 &
1. In the semifinals, Parker
defeated former 3 time State
Amateur Champion Taffy Brower in
19 holes to the final
match.
In the first flight, Sarah
Phillips, of Miami, defeated
Jena Bloomer, of Reddick 2 & 1.
The second flight featured Linda
McMillan of Palm Coast,
defeating Marsha Funk of Palm
Beach Gardens, 4 & 3. The third
flight had Christina Ricci of
Miami Shores, defeating Mindy
Smith of Tampa 1 up. Diane
Armet of West Palm Beach
defeated Mary Ann Riccio of
Bonita Springs to win the fourth
flight.
The Championship consisted of 96
players playing an 18-hole
seeding round Monday, May 8 and
advancing to match play Tuesday,
May 9th. After the qualifying
round, players were divided into
5 flights. The championship
flight consisted of 32 players
with the additional 3 flights
with 16 players in each. The
fourth flight consisted of 8
players.
