The
Florida Women's State Golf
Association's would like to
introduce Lauren Michelle
Uzelatz as recipient for the
2006 Jr. Girls' Scholarship.
Lauren was born on January 11,
1988 and raised in Lakeland, FL
her whole life. A 2006 graduate
of All Saints Academy with an
unweighted GPA of 3.96, Lauren
will attend the University of
Florida in the fall and plans to
major in Physiology and
Kinesiology where she will also
play on the Women’s Golf Team.
Lauren was a 4-year varsity
starter on the All Saint’s boys’
golf team, where she played in
the number one spot. She was
awarded all four years with the
All-County Golf Team. Lauren has
received the most improved
golfer award and the varsity
athletic achievement award. But
most impressively, she received
the Tom McLerg Award for
excellence in academics,
athletics, and community service
in 2005. Lauren has played
regularly in junior tournaments
in the greater Tampa area and
this year's FWSGA Jr. Girls'
Championship. Aside from a
demanding golf schedule, she
finds time to be a volunteer at
the First Tee, an all
sports-athletic trainer,
National Honors Society, work
with the Adopt-A-Family project,
Honors Council and much more.
She is not only a talented
golfer, but an outstanding
student too. With honors such as
highest overall GPA in the
freshman class, outstanding
academic achievement award,
Nationals Honors Roll,
Principals & Headmasters Lists,
and National Latin Exam award
the list goes on. She is
undoubtedly a deserving scholar
with her devotion for golf and
school. When asked how it feels
to be the recipient of the
scholarship, Lauren said "it
great honor to be awarded this
scholarship but most of all its
nice to see all my hard work
finally paying off."
Meet Desire
Chanel Vanterpool, the Florida
Women’s State Golf Associations’
2006 Jr. Scholarship recipient.
Desire was born on December 4,
1987, and resides in
Gainesville, Florida with her
mother Rosalia King. She is a
2006 graduate of Gainesville
High School with a current GPA
of 3.9. At Gainesville High
School, Desire played on the
varsity golf team from
2005-2006. She was a complete
novice at the beginning, but
through practice and hardwork
she became a true asset to the
team. Desire feels that the game
of golf challenges her both
mentally and physically and in
turn it has made her a better
person. After high school,
Desire plans to attend the
Miami-Dade Community College and
is undecided on her intended
major. Among golf, Desire has
participated in many other
organizations such as SECME Vice
President, Spanish National
Honors Society, Spanish Club,
and a volunteer aide at the high
school. She has also received
honors such as the Academic
Excellence Award, National Honor
Roll, Who Whose Among High
School Students, and an
Excellence Performance Award for
Spanish. Moreover, Desire feels
that the game of golf has given
her self-confidence, leadership
qualities and improved her
communication skills. We are
pleased to have awarded two
scholarships to such deserving
candidates. From the Florida
Women’s State Golf Association,
we would like to wish you both
the best of luck in the future!
