Lang, Hurst Named FWSGA Players-of-the-Year

 

The Florida Women's State Golf Association awarded their Second Annual Players-of-the-Year at a joint Champions Dinner with the Florida State Golf Association and Florida Junior Tour.  The dinner was held at Palma Ceia Country Club in Tampa on Friday, November 18th.  Diane Lang and Vicky Hurst were each named the Player-of-the-Year in their respective divisions.   

 

The 2005 FWSGA Player-of-the-Year was awarded to Diane Lang, of Weston.  In 2005 Diane was the runner up at the State Amateur Match Play Championship, she won the FWSGA Summer Mixed Team Championship and FWSGA/FSGA Mixed Team Championship with partner Doug Ritter, she finished in the top 10 at the FWSGA Amateur Stroke Play Championship, was the winner of the Championship Flight of the 4-Ball Match Play Championship with partner MJ Hiestand, and captured the USGA Women’s Senior Amateur Championship in her first attempt.  Diane defeated 4 time champion Carole Semple Thompson to capture the national event 1-up.  Diane became a national hero in her home country of Jamaica, becoming the only person to capture a USGA event.

 

Vicky Hurst, from Melbourne, wins the FWSGA Junior Player-of-the-Year award following a great year. She won the FWSGA Junior Girls Championship and advanced to match play in the US Girls Junior Championship and the US Women’s Amateur Championship. Vicky captured 3 Florida Junior Tour victories in the 16-18 division at the age of 14 and was also named the 2005 FJT 16-18 Girls’ Player of the year.
