Amateur Match Play Championship
Mary
Ann Plunkett of Lecanto defeated
Reggie Parker of Hobe Sound 3 &
2 to claim the 2004 FWSGA State
Amateur Championship at Black
Diamond Ranch in Lecanto.
Plunkett advanced to the finals
after defeating Shirley Budden
of Ponte Vedra Beach, 1 up. In
the quarterfinal match, Plunkett
defeated Pam Crikelair on the 18th
hole. Plunkett, a member of
Black Diamond, captured the
coveted championship on her home
soil.
In
the first flight, Cathy
Schaefer, of Fort Myers,
defeated Mary Ann Petrillo, of
St. Petersburg 1 up. The second
flight featured Laurie Watts of
Tampa, defeating Jennifer Polich
of Clearwater, 1 up. The third
flight had Janet Lisle of Lake
Worth, defeating Jo Ann Sluder
of Lake Forest in 20 holes. The
fourth flight featured Carolina
Hart of Juno Beach, defeating
Barbara Breen of Longboat Key 4
& 3. The fifth flight had Mary
Critchfield of Clearwater,
defeating Susan Ishii of Ocala
in 19 holes. The sixth flight
featured Cindy Hasting of Ponte
Vedra Beach, defeating Lucy
Kiggins of Stuart 1 up.
The
Championship consisted of 128
players playing an 18-hole
seeding round Monday, May 3 and
advancing to match play Tuesday,
May 4th. After the
qualifying round, players were
divided into 7 flights. The
championship flight consisted of
32 players with the additional 6
flights with 16 players in each.
